Burlington Arcade,
London, UK

Burlington Arcade in London is one of the world’s oldest and most celebrated shopping arcades. We were commissioned to redesign the lighting of the arcade, as part of a wider project to physically restore the iconic property and reinstate it as a global luxury shopping destination.

The creation of bespoke miniature LED fittings enabled the building’s magnificent architectural detailing to be accentuated and allowed a series of low hanging, reproduction pendants to be removed, producing an unobstructed view of the arcade for the first time.

The lighting design focused on stripping back the many layers of previous lighting interventions and replacing them with a simple yet impactful scheme that enhances the architecture and gives due presence to the retail spaces.”

The use of variable colour temperature adjusts the appearance of the arcade by enhancing natural light by day, and by evoking the soft warmth of the original gas lighting by evening.
