14. Design for flexibility
Lighting systems are often disposed of before the end of their lifespan because they lack the ability to adapt to the user’s changing needs, while over-specification of equipment can lead to waste.
Flexibility is key to promoting a circular economy. A lighting system that can be easily adapted to meet evolving needs helps reduce waste. However, over-specifying unnecessary equipment that may never be used contributes creates redundancy, increasing both embodied and operational carbon. Light Architecture often demands carefully crafted lighting solutions that should not be changed on a whim.......
