    4. Use light to ‘feel’ as well as ‘see’

    Lighting design often focuses too much on visibility, emphasising the quantity and uniformity of light at the expense of emotional and aesthetic effects. 


    While artificial light helps us see in the dark, it does much more than that—it also creates atmosphere and influences our emotions.


    Every light source, whether a streetlight illuminating a pavement or a spotlight highlighting a painting, creates a response. For example, the warm, dim lighting in a restaurant evokes a different atmosphere than the bright, cool light in a warehouse, regardless of the amount of light used. The atmosphere light creates is essential, as it affects how people feel, behave, and experience their environment......
